Every now and then you visit somewhere that reminds you of what it feels like to be genuinely curious about the world. Darly really captivated me. It's only been one day and already I feel like I've stumbled across an entire world I never knew was here. I think what's fascinating me most is how much of life here is still connected to the land. >> [music] >> We live in a world where goods, trends, and even cultural influences travel across continents, and it's easy to lose sight of where things come from. But here, it's refreshing to see how much of a place [music] can draw from its own surroundings. Darly has sparked something [music] in me that I had forgotten was there. So now, Yunan feels less like somewhere I'm [music] visiting and more like a playground I've only just discovered. >> [music] >> If you watched episode one, you'll know that this was [music] a surprise trip.
-
So, I don't know the names of all the hikes and I don't know any facts. I had no idea we were coming here. I did no research. So, I'm learning as I go along. We're [music] leaving this place day after tomorrow and we're going to leave this mountain range and we're going to go to another area in Yunan [music] Province. So I really want to get two hikes minimum within this mountain range. Kangshan [music] was there too. The bloke said it's too dangerous for a ped. So we're out with umbrellas and we are walking. Look at those beautiful mountains though in the back. Wow. >> Chuma. Interesting car that Shami. Oh, the X X AO me thing. Mobile phone companies producing cars cuz why not?
-
>> Wow. What's this? >> Oh, is this the flatbread? Could be. Niha. They're making the rotty. >> I love that everyone's out and about and it's pissing it down. You got to make bread. You got to make bread in the literal sense, too. So, there's lots of flatbreads in Dari. Lots of different types. Check this out. Plum flavored Americano, [music] orange americano, coconut americano, rose, >> rose latte, vanilla latte. So, we're definitely still on the hunt for flatbreads. We're just having a pause for a coffee. I think this is it, guys. [music] [music] Shay, >> from the little I know about bread making, this looks like really high hydration dough. So, she's using lots of flour, a bit of seasoning.
-
No idea what that is. It looks like ghee. And then there are the savory toppings. >> Hey saying we also need to try the shower bang which is made in a tandoori oven. This isn't the one but this is a different variant of flatbread local to Dali. Absolute mayhem. All the shops are really tiny and everything's really loud. We've managed to jump into this little coffee shop at the back. And here we go. It's getting cold, so I wanted to just quickly jump in somewhere. This is what the flatbread looks like. Okay, here we go. It smells so good. M. Oh man. Carb. So sweet. It's flaky, crispy on the outside, but softer on the inside. >> Oh, wow. I'm going to give you my description on this. Imagine a donut that's been squashed and filled with rose and brown sugar jam.
-
>> I'm so glad it tastes like nothing I've ever had before. >> You know, we should have jumped into a tea shop. [music] Guys, we're going up this mountain whether God wants us to or not. And we've got ourselves a feast. >> You got yourself. >> I got Yeah, we're going hiking with a [music] feast. Guess what I've got in here? I also found Well, H found a bakery. I then ransacked it after. And I got you two custard [music] tarts. >> And we've got tea cakes. Loads of tea cakes in here. >> Roast cakes. >> That does not look like chicken to me. It's >> good. That Leave it out. [music] We're literally in the clouds now. I can see a couple of waterfalls.
-
In between all of the 19 peaks, there are 18 streams that lead down to High Lake. >> [music] [music] >> The views are spectacular. Even though the clouds are super low, there's pockets where you can see Ohigh Lake and the city of Darly. Pretty cool. This is what the Jade Cloud Road looks like. Super easy, flat, completely paved. There's just no railing. But I mean, if you fall, there's enough trees there to catch you. And you actually can't beat being out in nature. Can rain or shine. Currently, we are 2,600 m above sea level. We're really in the clouds. If you can hear that, that's a ferocious waterfall cascading down the right, but I don't think this camera will pick it up. The mood is dramatic to say the least.
-
Cloudy misty ferocious rocks falling off the side of the mountain. Beautiful. Love it. >> I also don't know the last time I was 2,620 [music] m high. So many different colors on this mountain. So many different species of plants. And apparently 55 mm, including a bear. Fantastic. There's a bit of a waterfall on the pavement, so we're going to go through it with our brolies. >> [music] [music] >> We've just come to such a pretty part.
-
Complete forest. No view. Such a mood. Clouds hanging low. We might not make it back in time for the other cable car, though. We're six kilometers away from the end. >> [music] [music] >> New update, folks. It's pissing it down again. Umbrellas are out. We're in the clouds and we're bricking it a little bit cuz we might miss the cable car. And I think this cable car going down is actually an open top. We are literally walking through a storm and we saw this poor couple without any umbrellas or jackets and H tried to offer hours and they wouldn't take it.
-
They're totally drenched. We still have five kilometers to go in this. Oh, that gives us a flip-flop. Bless him. You know what I love? The Chinese are actually super hardy, man. This mountain was packed packed full of people and it's been raining all day. So, everyone expected it. Everyone knew it is fun and peaceful and refreshing. So, we're not minding the rain at all. My leggings are a drench and it's okay. I'm not cold. The landscape just looks so majestic that it makes up. So, you're just taking in the views across the walk. It's a bloody good walk, guys. >> All right, we're getting on a ski lift to go home. Oh >> No, I'm not liking this. >> We made it in time for the ski lift. That's the view. Oh my no.
-
>> Oh my no. [laughter] That's cool, isn't it? Imagine if it was chucking it down. All these people came up whilst it was still chucking it down. >> And it's pissing it down again, but this time really hard. Don't know if you can see our brolies. That's our current setup, guys. And we're we're doing quite all right. I feel sorry for the people with no umbrellas and no rain ponchos. [music] Guess what? There was no taxi when we got off the cable car. No taxi, no DDS. tried to ask a rickshaw to take us home and he couldn't understand on their map system. Let me show you where the mountain ranges from where I am now. We walked back. Wasn't long. So, we're going to try something new. Kong Yuing, I think, and Roamo.
-
We have found some form of flatbread and [music] something inside some bread. Oh, you faked it. That was so good. Really good. [music] I want to show you the last [music] couple of purchases. One of them was bread from the tandoor. And these are rose cakes. [music] The fillings are all from flowers. Rose, jasmine. Don't know why there's purple potato. So the fillings are sweet, but then the outside [music] are like pastry. Flaky. really flaky and savory with a sweet filling. So colorful flowers are so popular here and there's a huge variety of them. So clearly they're using it for these cakes and perfume [music] making and scents etc.
-
Shay and let me show you the tandur oven. We stopped here literally just to pull out the hat and we found this by accident. Boom, baby. Boom. Got a whole bunch of fruits for you guys to guess. This one's hard exterior. Interesting. And check that one out. Is that one hard exterior or soft? It looks like a lemon, but it isn't. Look at that. I don't know if these are all variants of melon. You found it. [music] Morning folks. It's day three in China or I should say in the province of Yunan. We're still in Darly. Today we've discovered a whole new area. We're near the University of Darly. Well, there's many campuses, but we're near the main one. Oh my gosh, there's a there's a beautiful cat. Sorry, guys. Let me show you this cat. What on earth is that?
-
Hello mate. Whoa. Probably the most beautiful black cat I've ever seen. Apologies, folks. Got distracted by a cat. Honestly though, we've seen the most beautiful dogs and cats in V in in China. I was going to say Vietnam, though. We don't see them in Vietnam, and that's why we're obsessed with them in China. Right back to this area. This university has so many cool hit shops, restaurants, cafes dotted all around it. We haven't seen this side of Dari at all. And it just so randomly happens to be on the west side of high lake near the university, which does make sense, but I mean, I thought we would be like mainly in the city or in the tourist area surrounding the lake. >> We might be in the wrong taxi. But heyi ho, I'm sure he's going to take us somewhere great. >> Nothing anywhere bad in there, darling. >> Nope. H is astounded at the top quality coffee. They're all roasting their beans and actually growing the coffee around this region in the Kang Shang mountain range. after just having breakfast at that place. We're both kind of gutted that we're leaving Dari tomorrow.
-
There's there's more magnificent places to come [music] and there's so many more hikes around Yunan. We're only here for 8 days, but we both feel like coming here and staying for a month and doing all the nature trails and skipping all the tourist spots and checking out the villages, the tea farms. [music] There's so many tea plantations here as well. You can do a tie dying workshop. Just h so much [music] we've discovered over the past couple of days. [music] That tea plantation farm hike was closed. Just in case I didn't give you a peak yesterday, this is why I want a nature trail today. This is the level of infrastructure on the main mountain passageways. The cable cars, the chair lifts, there's shops everywhere. There's concrete everywhere, lampposts. And you know what? It shocks me because this mountain range is a UNESCO site and they have done it well. The actual mountain is is covered when you're walking through it.
-
The path is hidden. You can't see the path from down at sea level. But when I'm hiking, this is not what I expect. So, actually, if you're not into hiking and you love taking a cable car and getting an easy route to the top and you just want to be there for the views or a day out or something interesting to do, then China would be perfect because the infrastructure is built, no offense, for the lazy people. >> [music] >> Folks, mission aborted. That trail is also densely packed. So many crowds. This is my worst nightmare, man. Everyone not looking where they're going, stood in the middle of the stairs on their phones. So, we're going to the third and final recommendation from Google before I succumb to working in a coffee shop with my laptop on the last day. It's probably fate that we do need to get some work done, but this is our final chance. I just want a tiny bit of nature, no tourist, even if it's one hour and I'll be happy. Let's give it a go.
-
And this, ladies and gents, [music] is what I'm talking about. Hardly any people. And if there are any people, they all look like they're locals. For some reason, we've seen loads of people here holding like 19 L empty [music] water jugs and then they're filling it up from one of the streams. Look, that geese is carrying [music] it on his shoulder. Fresh water from Kang Shan Mountain. By the way, we've traveled [music] 20 minutes all the way to the south where the city of Dali is the main city where we came off on the train station. I had no idea when I was booking it on DDI. I was just [music] pissed. I was pissed and I wanted to get out of there. If you're new to the channel, hi. I'm Sara and I keep it real. I still am having fun, by the way. This is all part of exploration. This is the cost of exploration. Some things fail and that's okay. Everything's new to us, so everything's still super exciting. It's just disappointing that there's such a lack of respect for the mountain. I think that's how I feel.
-
way folks. There's a trail. Not a single person in sight. It's open. It's in the forest. I can hear the streams and the waterfalls. We're going to get our hours worth of steps in here, aren't we? [music] >> Yeah. >> Well, that's wobbly. That [music] Hey [music] [music] of Of course, it would be spectacular to have this [music] sort of trail on some of the main peaks on Kang Mountain Range, but I mean, we'll take this. This is incredible.
-
Oh my gosh. You can see incredible views of the city and the southern part of the lake through the pine trees. Wow. And this is the sort of dirt path that I was looking for. just covered by the pine needles, surrounded by the pine trees. We've just saw one local person walk past [music] Stunning views, man. Only seen two people on this trail so far. Got to say, [music] we completely salvaged the day with that trail. It wasn't epic, but it was exactly what we needed. It's really hard to find non-ouristy anything when you go abroad and you don't know a city. I do think it's worth it though to go through the failed attempts of trying to find some nooks and crannies and hidden spots,
-
viewpoints, lowkey places. There are consequences. It can be disappointing, but this was so worth it. Really need to crack on and work tonight. So, I shall see you guys wherever we head to next. China has already challenged so many of my preconceived notions and Dali [music] gave me a glimpse into just how extraordinary Eunan might be. This place makes you feel both incredibly small and completely at home. [music] Roses, coffee, or even wild mushrooms, the land here isn't just a backdrop to everyday life. [music] It's a part of it. It makes you wonder how many places we dismiss, how many people we form opinions about without [music] ever making the effort to understand them. At some point, you have to be willing to go there, [music] to listen, to look beyond what you think you know. And Darly reminded me there's a lot more to this world than the version of it we've been shown.
